A Slice of Log Cake
Life’s a slice. It’s been a slice. Slice of life. They dined on mince, and slices of quince. The best thing since sliced bread. Any way you slice it, it’s a slice of cake. But not just any cake. It’s a ‘slice of a log’ cake! Big. Round. Shallow. More brownie like than cake.
Each year in early December, I make my Grandson a birthday cake. It has been, to say the least, a year of the mushroom (Lucky me!), so I thought, heck, why ‘knot’? Lucky lives in a yule log and I began to ask the burning question: Why are these holiday cakes always a log instead of a slice of a tree? So I clanged and crashed out my largest round pan and baked a very thin, round cake. A slice of log cake.
I swirled the chocolate frosting on top to make it look like the rings of a tree. Turns out I had created 11 rings and that is how old Max was turning! Didn’t plan it. I swear!
This was last year’s ‘log’ cake for Max. It was at the very beginning of writing my book ‘Lucky The Christmas Mushroom’.
The moral of this story is this: Don’t fret over creating a full log for your festive cakes when you can make a big, round tree slice instead! Both are fun and delicious. This was a super crowd pleaser! Any way I sliced it!
Happy Christmas!
